Just seen a pair of magpies chasing a cat...
The two birds were working in tandem. Wherever the cat went, one planted itself on a branch overhead and gave out their usual racket, while the other swooped overhead to drive the moggy away, surprisingly low to the ground.

Ole pussy was on his toes like he'd wandered into Ducky Boy territory and no mistake.

They were swapping roles and all sorts, proper tag team. Quite impressive work. Is this a thing ?

Magpies will swoop anyone while they are protecting their chicks.
Will give you a good peck on the back of the head which is why you see those caps with eyes 👀 on the back

Vicious bastards them Magpies, many bird lovers despise them

Crows used to mentally torture our dogs with their own food , if we did not stop them.

Often wonder what bit of instinct prompts that.

Working in tandem as per O/P, I guess was the point.

Yeah, it's a thing. They do it to foxes, too.

So do crows.

They just do it for the sheer joy of being dicks. They're highly intelligent and get bored.

I think they're probably nesting, which definitely means getting out the Larsen Trap (or rather borrowing my cousin's). Cunts.

They do it all year round. They're dicks.

A while after they'd all fucked off, I saw the tiniest pair of songbirds I've ever seen (one singing, one not), shaped liked Blue Tits, dark on the back/wings with white chests. What are they ?

Re: Just seen a pair of MAGPIES chasing a cat...
Yep ,they do it to foxes too,as said,.they occasionally do it when the cat or fox is carrying food. I saw 2 magpies picking on a very young rabbit once ,very clever the way they were trapping it. I scared them off but put the rabbit out of it's misery as they had pecked it's eyes out . Cats with wings .

Where were they? High in a tree? Low Bush?
Shape of beak, colour of legs?

White chest ,not a pale yellow?

Re: Just seen a pair of MAGPIES chasing a cat...
As I say, shaped like a Blue Tit with the long tail, but dark on the back/wings, with whiteish chests. In trees, but not too high. About 3 metres away from me, playful, not frightened of me at all. One singing, one not. The tiniest birds I've ever seen. Thought they might be baby Blue Tits, but apparently not. They were so small it was difficult to tell.

Sounds like Goldcrests possibly. Very small bird and can be quite tame.
